2024 Community Grand Marshal Board Choice

Xander Briere (they/he/fae)

"I wanted to thank the communities and organizations that supported my nomination for Grand Marshal. I would like to take some time to love and appreciate the Tenderloin Community, which historically led the first queer liberation marches on Polk Street. Despite the media's coverage of the disparities and traumas experienced in our community, the Tenderloin is where my home and heart lie. We are a vibrant resilient community just trying to survive in systems not built for us. Compassion is the key to healing, not stigmatization and criminalization. This is my home, my family has lived and died here and their legacy will be heard in this pride!

Thank you SF Pride for providing a platform for our movements and using your voice for a collective queer liberation. This moment will be cherished deeply within the movement."

-Xander Briere
Get ready to meet Xander Briere (they/he/fae) - a true force to be reckoned with! Born and raised in the Tenderloin, Xander is a disabled queer nonbinary activist with a passion for healthcare as a social justice movement, harm reduction, queer and trans liberation, decriminalization of sex workers, and youth homelessness advocacy.

Their work at the San Francisco Community Health Center is making a real impact in the community, and they're not stopping there. Xander is also a member of the Transgender District's Community Advisory Council (2023) and a National Youth Mentor with Point Source Youth (2022-present).

But that's not all - in their free time, Xander takes on the persona of Dirty Dionysus, a drag king who's all about go-go, burlesque, and plus-sized modeling.

But they're not just having fun - they're also distributing harm reduction supplies while they're at it. Nightlife outreach is Xander's way of meeting community members where they are, breaking down barriers to accessing services, and reducing the stigma around harm reduction. They perform with Divine Masc, Queer Fem Parties, and Om Nom Nom Burlesque. They are also Mx. November (2023) for the Bay Area Trans Masc Calendar. Drawing on personal experiences of generational homelessness and housing instability, substance use, and sex work, Xander is driven to give back to the Tenderloin community in any way they can.
