[6.27.09] SF Pride Celebration 2009 - DAY 1

[6.27.09] PINK TRIANGLE Installation and Dedication Ceremony   7:30 AM – 10 AM.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Friends of the Pink Triangle is a group of volunteers who, on a tiny budget, construct a gigantic pink triangle on Twin Peaks. It can be seen for 20 miles. The Pink Triangle has been installed for each Pride weekend since 1996, as a visible yet mute reminder of man’s inhumanity to man. This symbol, which was used as in an attempt to label and shame has been embraced by the gay community as a symbol of pride. We must remind people of the hatred and prejudice of the past to help educate others and try to prevent such hatred from happening again. What happened in the Holocaust must not be forgotten and must not be repeated. This will be the 14th display of the Pink Triangle high atop San Francisco's Twin Peaks.

PINK TRIANGLE INSTALLATION is Saturday June 27, 2009 from 7:30am-10am Volunteers needed.

PINK TRIANGLE DEDICATION CEREMONY at 10:30am with the Grand Marshals of the parade plus Local, State and National elected officials who will all speak out against hatred and bigotry and offer promise for a bright future. Followed by a champagne christening of the 2009 Pink Triangle.

Cloris Leachman will be telling “The History of the Pink Triangle” at the beginning of this year’s commemoration ceremony on Saturday June 27 at 10:30 am.  She is an Emmy and Oscar-winning actress of stage, film, and television.
Congressman Jared Polis
of Colorado recently returned from Iraq and will speak of the outrageous and tragic events that are taking place there toward the LGBT community.
Lieutenant Dan Choi
He declared his sexual orientation publicly on national television (The Rachel Maddow Show), resulting in his recent notification of military discharge.  He fights for the repeal of the discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.
California Senator Mark Leno,
California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano,
S.F. Supervisor Bevan Dufty
,
S.F. Treasurer Jose’ Cisneros

President of the S.F. Bd. of Supervisors
David Chui,
S.F. Supervisor David Campos
