Rainbow Flags to Go Up Two Weeks Early on Market Street in 2011
Pride Committee Announces Main Stage Headliner Sandra Bernhard and Expanded Sunday Celebration Hours
San Francisco, CA – 10 May 2011 –The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee announced today that rainbow flags along Market Street will be going up two weeks earlier this year. Rainbow flags will start appearing on the Path of Gold light standards on Market Street starting next week with a scheduled completion date of May 18. Traditionally, the flags go on display in June. This year, in coordination with SF Travel, SF Pride is raising rainbow flags along Market early to help greet attendees of the U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow on May 21 to May 25.
Pride announced expanded hours for the second day of the two-day Celebration in Civic Center this year. The Celebration on Sunday, June 26 will run from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., a full hour earlier than in previous years. The Pride Parade will kick off from Market and Beale Street at the usual time of 10:30 a.m. that Sunday morning. Celebration hours on Saturday, June 25 will still run from Noon to 6:00 p.m. as has been the tradition in years past.
"Expanding our Sunday Celebration to a full seven and a half hours will give the community more time to enjoy themselves at Pride," Interim Executive Director Brendan Behan stated. "We look forward to giving our community more time this year than we have in years past. We wait so long all year to enjoy Pride Weekend, so what better way to relish in the moment than by having more time to do so?"
The Pride Committee also announced that Sandra Bernhard has been confirmed as a Main Stage headliner for the 2011 San Francisco Pride Celebration. Bernhard will be performing on Pride’s Main Stage on Sunday, June 26. A preliminary schedule of Main Stage set times will be posted at the end of May at sfpride.org.
