San Francisco Pride’s Membership Re-elects Incumbent
Board Members
and Selects 2010 Event Theme San Francisco, CA – 22 September 2009 – The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee announced today that the general membership of the organization overwhelmingly voted at their Annual General Meeting (AGM), held September 20 at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, to re-elect standing board members for another term. Those re-elected are Vice President Nikki Calma, Secretary Lisa Williams, and member Joshua Hardwick. The event theme for the 40th annual San Francisco Pride Celebration & Parade was also selected by the membership. A majority of members voted for "Forty and Fabulous" from a slate of fifty-one potential themes, each submitted by community members and members of Pride. Member Richard Kravitz, who submitted the winning theme, explained his submission after the meeting: “I thought that we needed something fun. Last year, I told Executive Director Lindsey Jones that the theme for next year should be ‘Forty and Fabulous.’ She said to submit it, and so I did." At the conclusion of the meeting Joshua Smith, interim executive director, stated: “The Board of Directors is crucial in shaping Pride, so it’s very exciting to see such a strong and enthusiastic team returning this year. Pride’s fortieth anniversary is going to be an important milestone for our community and for celebrating the emergence of the Pride movement. Having a visionary board will ensure that Pride moves into 2010 with a solid foundation and with a team that is ready to capture the spirit of the community forty years after San Francisco’s first Pride event took place.” Membership in the Pride Celebration Committee is free and open to any individual. Membership applications can be submitted online at sfpride.org. The Pride Committee also announced today plans to relocate their offices from their current location at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center to just across Market Street. The new address for the Pride offices will be 1841 Market Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103-1112. Mikayla Connell, board president, stated: “After many wonderful years at the Center, Pride has made the decision to relocate offices to help us meet the needs of our expanded office team and to better prepare for the fortieth anniversary event. We will miss being at the Center but we look forward to welcoming our community to our new office space just right across the street.” Pride will be closing its present offices at the Center on Friday, September 25 and reopening at the new location at 1841 Market Street on October 5, 2009. Pride’s regular office hours will continue to be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pride’s main office phone number, (415) 864-0831, will remain the same.
Current Board of Directors for 2009-2010: The primary criteria in Pride Celebration Committee board member selection is a thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of Pride and a strong record of excellence in community engagements and professional organizations. The Pride board’s nominating committee is currently accepting applications from the community. The next board meeting, open to the public, is Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. The board will vote for executive committee positions (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) at this meeting being held at San Francisco Pride’s new offices at 1841 Market Street on the fourth floor. Visitors to the office must enter at the side of the building at 30 Pearl Street prior to 7:00 p.m. to attend.
