Community Partner Grants will be distributed on August 19th to SF LGBT Pride’s Partner Organizations
Over 70 Diverse Beneficiary Organizations Represented
San Francisco, CA – August 12, 2008. Over 70 community-based organizations will receive grant checks in recognition of their participation in the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee's 2008 Community Partners Program. The Check Party will take place on Tuesday, August 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the LGBT Community Center.
Since the start of the program in 1997, grants to Pride's Community Partners total more than $1,270,000, which does not include monies for grants to be given out next week.
Lindsey Jones, Executive Director said:
The Community Partners Program generates significant and much needed funding for these community-based, non-profit organizations. With government funding for crucial community programs and health services shrinking, supporting our Partners with grants is as important as ever. This program is only successful because of the hard work, dedication and heart of these fantastic volunteers. We are eager to express our gratitude to them at the Check Party.
The Community Partners Program benefits not-for-profit organizations based in the Bay Area whose mission involves services to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities and/or services and outreach to people living with HIV/AIDS or breast cancer.
Organizations participating in the Community Partners Program provide volunteers to manage beverage booths and donation gates at the annual two-day San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration & Parade. In return for their service, the Pride Celebration Committee grants proceeds from these operations back to the participating community organizations based on the amount of volunteer hours worked.
The 39th annual San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade will take place over the weekend of June 27 and June 28, 2009. The event theme is scheduled to be chosen by the SF LGBT Pride Celebration Committee’s membership at the Annual General Membership Meeting on September 21, 2008. Public submissions are encouraged.
