Grand Marshal Fever
Who Gives YOU Hope?

San Francisco Pride has announced the nominees for Individual and Organization Grand Marshal for this year's LGBT Pride Parade. Fitting with the theme of this year's event, Harvey Milk's quote "You've Gotta Give Them Hope," the list reflects the people and organizations that carry on his legacy and give us hope for the future.

San Francisco Pride President, Joey Cain, said:

“With the White House occupied by a water boy for extreme right wing religious fundamentalists, it is imperative that we keep alive the hope and courage to fight for and advance the cause of human rights and social justice for all people.  The individuals and organizations nominated for Grand Marshall reflects San Francisco's ongoing leadership in creating that hope and translating it into action.”

The nominees for Individual Grand Marshal are (in alphabetical order): Georgina Beyer MP, Larry Brinkin, Rahn Fudge, Robert Jobe, Carolyn Laub, John Manzon-Santos, Vicki Marlene, Aleem Raja, Snatch and Hank Wilson. A listing of nominees, with photos and brief biographies is located at:

The 2003 Organization nominees are: Lesbians in the Visual Arts, Marriage Equality California, Team San Francisco, Trikone and the Youth Gender Project. President George W. Bush, Fred Phelps and Dr. James Dobson are the choices for the Pink Brick Award.

Voting will take place during the month of March at locations throughout the Bay Area. Ballots will also be available during business hours at the Pride Offices, 1390 Market St, Ste. 903. Each ballot can include up to three choices each in the Individual and Organization categories and one vote for the Pink Brick recipient. The results will be tabulated and announced in early April.

In addition to the Grand Marshals chosen by the public, the general members of the Pride Committee and an electoral college of former Grand and Honorary Marshals will each select one Individual Grand Marshal. The winners will join Armistead Maupin, Celebrity Grand Marshal, at the SF Pride Parade and Celebration.

This year is the 33rd anniversary of the San Francisco Pride Parade and Celebration. The event theme is "You've Gotta Give Them Hope." The event is to be held over the June 28/29 weekend.  For more information about the history of San Francisco Pride, please visit our website at:
