In spite of the troubled economy, this year's San Francisco Pride Parade and Celebration has set a new record for community grants. This year, an astonishing $129,755 will be given back to the community, an increase of 18% on last year's record.
Our goal was to sustain the level of community reinvestment we achieved last year. It gives me great satisfaction that we've exceeded that, said SF Pride President, Joshua Smith. The bulk of the funds are generated by Pride's Community Partners Program, which rewards organizations who help staff the beverage booths and collect donations at the event. Over the past five years, Pride has reinvested approximately $500,000 in the community. This years warmer weather helped boost beverage income and gate donations to new record highs. The checks will be presented to the beneficiaries at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center on July 29. San Francisco LGBT Pride 2003 will take place over the weekend of June 28/29, 2003.
