"Kalayaan" is a performance
piece dealing with the
acceptance of being gay in
Islamic Southeast Asia. It
infuses traditional music,
movement and spoken word
that represents the struggle
of homosexuality
throughout other parts of
the world.
The artist writes about the
work and this year's Pride
theme, "United by Pride,
Bound for Equality," "This piece shows us that we
have to be united globally
in our Pride and that we
must continue to take notice
of other areas in the world
where it's still a
struggle being gay."
Performance times: 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. at the SF Pride artSpace
