At the February 12 General Planning Meeting, the San Francisco Pride Board of Directors and membership unanimously voted to support Supervisor David Campos’ campaign to re-name San Francisco International Airport in honor of the slain LGBT rights icon.
- Eighty airports in the United States are named after individuals, but not one is named after an LGBT leader.
- Harvey Milk is worthy of this honor – as the first gay man to win public office in SF, he remains one of the most iconic figures in the LGBT rights movement.
- Adding Harvey Milk’s name to our local airport will present a unique opportunity to send a message about the struggle for justice and equality throughout the United States and abroad.
There will be a rally in support of this campaign on February 22 at 12 Noon at the steps of San Francisco’s City Hall. For more information visit the campaign’s web site at http://harveymilksfo.com.
